Remembering Ruthie Rescue Inc: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The money was used to get 5 dogs vetted(all of their shots, fecal tests, dewormings,HW tests and HW medications)one of which needed an x-ray on his back because he had been dragging his right rear leg. He also needed medication for his Cherry eye. Also it allowed us to rescue a cute 5 lb Chi who had demodex mange and is on medication for that.

Since we are small and don't have alot of supporters just it enabled us to get all Dogs in our care UTD on vaccines and take in a couple of special needs cases which noone else would touch.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The lil guy weighed in at 10 lbs and probably won’t get any bigger. Although he can gain a couple of pounds but not to much more due to his leg issue(more to come on that). He had several Ticks removed from each ear,has hook and whip worms, but luckily is HW- . He has the cherry eye which has to have the surgery but in the meantime we have antibiotic ointment to put on it 2x a day. They believe him to be 7-8 months but no more than 1 year due the tarter buildup he has already. Now to the leg issue Pugsley has been shot in the back with a pellet gun. It is located near the l-1, l-2 vetrebre causing some nerve damage to the right back leg. The injury is fairly recent as we found the sore just above the pellet location. The Dr thinks it’s at least a week old but no more than 2 weeks old. Because of him dragging that foot his nails are down to the quick.Surgery isn’t an option as he thinks the muscle tissue may have attached itself to the pellet keeping it somewhat stable. Trying to remove it could cause paralsys. He also has No Muscle on that right leg. So the plan of action for that is Rehab. We will be walking him frequently in the grass as to keep him off any concrete to prevent any further damage to his nails. They do not believe he will get any worse hopefully better seeing how it is a fresh injury and he’s young. I am sure i’m probably forgetting something but my head is killing me. I don’t know how anyone could hurt this precious baby and just leave him He is very Calm,Quiet, and Loves to Give Kisses. Below are pictures of him.
