Planned PEThood of GA: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed our organization to provide supportive care to Violet's adopter after adoption. This was crucial to her adoptability, since she is on prescription food and various medications and supplements.

We do feel this was a factor in her new mom adopting her. In the long run, it also saved us funding to use for other animals, since we were able to stop spending money to care for Violet once she was adopted.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Sweet senior Violet lost her home not once but TWICE due to her adopters being affected by COVID. She came back to us last year depressed and overweight. Her foster and our vets worked hard to help her lose weight through diet and exercise.

Finding an adopter turned out be even harder. But thanks to a referral from another foster, some help from a long-time volunteer, and lots of marketing, the right person finally connected with her thanks to Petfinder.com.

Violet is a senior kitty, and with that can come costly medical needs such as special foods and medications. This grant allowed Violet’s medication and prescription food to be covered for the first six months post-adoption.

Violet was adopted shortly after the grant announcement. Her new mom already has her room stocked with toys and cat trees. Violet will rule the roost as the only cat and be spoiled as she deserves.
