How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the award money to purchase, wire and install two ceiling-fan/light fixtures in the screened outdoor deck area of the adoption room of our shelter

The cats love spending time in the outdoor deck areas of our shelter, but summer in Florida comes with brutally high temperatures. The fans we had installed provide a breeze which makes this area pleasant for the cats to lounge and sleep in. We find that many more cats are enjoying the deck now.

These fans also allowed us to open this area to prospective adopters. Since the Covid-19 restrictions were put in place, we lost the opportunity to show our cats in five pet stores, so it was imperative that we adjust our adoption efforts to include allowing people to meet our cats at our shelter. Now it is so much more comfortable for the prospective adopters who come to meet the resident cats.

How many pets did this grant help?

At the present time, there are 18 resident cats in the adoption area of our shelter. As others enter, they too will be able to enjoy the fresh outdoor breezes the fans provide.

Bubba and Martin, two of the adoption-room resident cats, were introduced to their new owners in the outdoor deck area. They were both adopted. This was made possible because the fans made the area comfortable enough for the adopters to spend time and interact with Bubba and Martin.
