Sheltering Hands, Inc.: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The toys were used for cat enrichment, especially at Petsmart, where the kittens need very engaging toys to expel their energy. The kittens loved the infused bobble mouse; however, they made quick work of separating the tail from the mouse! The pom-tail mouse was also a huge favorite, as you can see in the pictures.

This grant allowed us to replace a number of our old cats toys and offer more interesting toys to our cats than plastic balls with bells in them. We love these high-quality toys that can withstand rough play from the kittens and still hold up to our need to sanitize with bleach and laundry detergent between kittens.

How many pets did this grant help?

40 and counting

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Jeep, who is the brown tabby van in the second photo, had been at Petsmart for a few weeks waiting for his forever home. He had been overlooked a number of times until we put the new toys in the cage with him. He and his siblings fell in love with catnip. It allowed his potential adopter the opportunity to see him as a playful and energetic kitten. He has been adopted.
