Save A Life Pet Rescue Team: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kong Toy Grant was used to enrich the lives of dogs and puppies in foster care while awaiting adoption.

The Kong Toy Grant helped Save A Life Pet Rescue continue its mission of helping abandoned and neglected animals in the Central Florida area successfully find forever homes. The toys helped our dogs and puppies transition easily from foster homes to forever homes by providing amusement, and safely engaging and accommodating natural chewing behavior. The toys were recommended to new adopters to provide a seamless transition in the household. The rescue and adoption process can be very stressful changes for dogs and puppies. Having the Kong Toy Grant prevented common stresses and destructive behaviors that allowed for a successful adoption. The toys are durable and easy to clean, use, and reuse.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

KiKi, a young Chihuahua mix, is very active and social and didn’t like to be crated. She would bark, paw, and bite at the crate every time. Her foster introduced her to the Kong toy, filling it with lots of hard-to-reach treats that kept KiKi so busy, she forgot she was in a crate! Needless to say, KiKi was so well-behaved at the adoption event, she was one of the first dogs to be adopted by the perfect family!

Mikey is a Chihuahua-mix puppy in a litter of four. Mikey and his brothers and sisters loved their Kong toys. Mikey and his littermates were rambunctious little pups, to say the least. The toys were especially useful to teach these pups what was okay and not okay to chew. They had a bad habit of chewing their water and food dishes. Using the Kong toys helped keep them occupied and stopped them from chewing on the bowls.
