Cat Depot: Purina and Amazon Treats for the Holidays Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Party Mix Cat Treats have been used for cats in the shelter as training treats, and as prizes at adoption events where adopters get to spin the "Wheel of Fur-tune" to win something for their new furry friend. The cats love the treats, and this generous gift has saved us an enormous amount of money, which in turn made it possible for us to take in even more deserving felines.
Treats are great for training cats to do everything from lap-sitting to running agility courses. Being in a shelter environment can be both stressful and tedious, and the treats help us with activities that enrich the resident cats' lives. Many cats who act out are just bored, and training gives them both interaction with humans and something to think about. And who doesn't like to get a treat every now and then!

During 2016 thus far, we have taken in 871 cats and kittens.

Juniper (first photo) is an 11-month-old girl who was very shy when she first arrived to Cat Depot. The Party Mix treats have helped her open up to visitors and the other kitties, and she hopes her new confidence will help her find a home soon. Carmen (second photo) is a three-legged, declawed senior and long-time Cat Depot resident. She has waited for a home for over a year. When it comes to other cat treats, she’s interested in playing with the bags, but ignores the treats. Party Mix inspires her to attempt to break into the containers, which is quite a feat when missing a leg! In the third photo, Carmen has spotted an open container on a desk in the staff area! She hopes to find a home soon with a soft resting spot, gentle hands to rub her head and scratch her chin, and some Party Mix to snack on.
