Feline Rescue, Inc.: A Shot at Life Vaccination Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We are a small TNR group that does most of the work in the fields. Very few cats or kittens make it into our foster care network as most of the cats we trap are feral and are properly returned to their colonies. Those that are placed in our foster care are adopted out to properly screened homes, most of which come to us through the search facilities provided by Petfinder. The vaccinations were used at point of service when we took our trapped cats in for their sterilization surgeries.

We are currently working on a very large project right in our back year, so to speak. Thanks to generous grants from Best Friends Network and from PetSmart Charities, we have the financial backing to clear the beach and public parks areas of two communities that we are a part of; Lighthouse Point and Hillsboro Beach. This is the largest project ever undertaken by Feline rescue and it will result, hopefully, in the eventual trapping and neutering of almost 500 cats over a two year period. We mention all of this here to give you some concept of the pace we will be working. This is about 20 cats per month over the period of the project and we are pleased to tell you that in the 2 months since we received your vaccinations, we have trapped 43 cats and taken them in for sterilizations. All 43 of those cats were taken to our favorite low-cost clinic which was very happy to use the Fel-O-Guard 3 vaccinations that we provided and not charge us for the administration. At this rate, the vaccinations provided will be used in their entirety by the end of the year. This will have saved us $1000 at the clinic that would have been charged in addition to the cost of surgery.

How many pets did this grant help?

about 100 in total by the end of this year.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

There really isn’t any one story or cat that has been helped as we have used the vaccinations on all of the cats that we have trapped in the past two months.
