Rescue Animals in Need: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kong products were given to our foster homes to use for the dogs in our rescue as enrichment and for training and play.

We have seen improved relaxation when they are in their crates and reduced anxiety during the foster process and at events.

How many pets did this grant help?

So far, 10! And hopefully many more to come.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Hendrix (first photo) is a 3.5-month-old male boxer/pittie mix that RAIN picked up from a municipal shelter when they called for a rescue. He was completely bald with Demodex and massive skin and ear infections. Hendrix has been recovering in a foster home since then and has begun opening up and playing with toys. And having a treat-filled Kong with him in his crate has helped distract him, and as a result, reduce the scratching caused by his itches. Thank you so much!

Meatloaf (second photo) was hit by a car and brought into a municipal shelter. He’d a pretty tough life: He was emaciated and had a massive skin infection, mange, wounds from the car accident, and double ear infections. The 1-year-old pittie is now fully vetted, heartworm-negative, and ready for a new home. He is crate- and housetrained and good with cats, dogs, and kids. He is working on basic obedience and leash manners. Meet him: www.petfinder.com/petdetail/41231193
