Underhound Railroad: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We used the KONG products for all our little and big foster pups. They each were given one KONG, their size. We also sent some peanut butter along with some of the KONGs and other treats and goodies. The foster pups enjoyed each and every treat and KONG they were given to play with.
It helped our foster dogs come out of their shells, trust, play, and enjoy some peanut butter in their new KONGs. Some of the dogs didn't know what to do with the KONGs because they were never taught to play or just be a dog.
How many pets did this grant help?
10 dogs
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Say hello to Tex, Warren, and Velma (first photo, left to right). All three dogs were strays who were brought to [an open-admission] shelter in North Carolina. Warren was skin and bones, Tex was shy and scared, and Velma just didn’t know why she was there. Underhound Railroad decided to rescue all three dogs so they wouldn’t be euthanized. A wonderful foster took all three home to care for them.
As they wait to be transported to Maine to find their forever homes, they are hanging out in foster care down south. All three dogs have opened up and have given and have received much love. They enjoy the activity of getting the peanut butter out of their KONGs!
The KONGs aid us in so many functions, including calming separation anxiety, crate-training, trust-building, reducing boredom, and deterring play-biting, barking and chewing issues.
Underhound Railroad appreciates the Petfinder Foundation 2019 KONG Toy Grant that we were awarded. These KONGs help dogs like Velma, Tex, and Warren come out of their shells and become playful, happy dogs with very bright futures in their pursuit of finding their forever homes! Thank you, KONG!!
