Meriden Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The board of directors, staff, volunteers, and, most especially, the DOGS of The Meriden Humane Society would like to thank you for the very generous donation of Kong toys.
The team could not wait to get them in the paws and mouths of our dogs! Right away, the dogs were busy trying to lick out all the peanut butter and hints of kibble that were stuffed inside. They were entertained, challenged, engaged -- and HAPPY! There was peace in the dog room and everyone, including the handlers, was able to relax a bit and just enjoy each other.
We are so appreciative to you for giving us the opportunity to allow our dogs to be dogs and get the mental stimulation they needed in order for them to relax and enjoy the warm and loving environment they're in. Thank you!
How many pets did this grant help?
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
One of the dogs featured in the photos included just recently came to us since we received this grant. Aeris (first and second photos) is a 7-year-old tripod who tires easily from walks and free runs, but the team is determined to ensure she gets all the stimulation she needs.
She has ADORED her Kongs and will sit and play with them for as long as possible. Due to her physical limitations, Aeris is set up in her own room, as it is difficult for her to navigate the large kennels with the step-through openings that the other large dogs are in.
With her being somewhat separated from the other dogs, we didn’t want her to feel lonely, so the team has set her up with her own space, which rivals a studio apartment! She sits and plays with her Kongs and is all tail-wags and kisses with any of her human friends who come to play with her.
Aeris will be available at the conclusion of her initial decompression period; the other dogs in the photos are still available for adoption on the Petfinder website.
