Pikes Peak Parrot Rescue: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation grant funds were used to help feed, house, and provide enrichment for the over 30 parrots currently in our care. At a cost of $80/bird/month, the additional $500 grant enabled us to make sure that each bird was given fresh fruits and vegetables, as well new toys to enrich their current shelter environment.

With Covid-19, we have seen an increase in the number of birds that have been relinquished into our care, resulting in additional expenses to properly care for all the birds. This grant has helped us continue to provide fresh fruits and vegetables, along with enrichment, for the additional birds brought into our care.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Kimber is one of our very special birds who has had a hard life. She was originally wild-caught and brought into the USA for trade. Since her owner passed away, Kimber has struggled to move forward, resulting in a severe dislike of men and children. This has made it difficult to find her the perfect home, but we will continue to search because we know that home is out there! This grant has helped us continue to provide for her needs while we still look for that forever home for her, and for that, we are extremely grateful. You can meet Kimber here.
