Demi's Animal Rescue: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The COVID-19 Operation Grant from the Petfinder Foundation was used to purchase food for the dogs, cats and kittens in our foster program. We experienced a large increase in capacity when COVID-19 hit, which quickly used up our resources. The Petfinder Foundation allowed us to continue taking animals as we were able to purchase food to keep rescuing!

Demi's Animal Rescue is a foster-based animal rescue. We provide our fosters with all the supplies they need so that even if they lost their jobs, they can still help with our mission of saving animals. Having the resources available allows us to bring these fosters on board and saves more lives. This food allows us to take in more animals in need during this pandemic.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Demi’s Animal Rescue was contacted by a woman who needed help with a litter of kittens and their mom. They had been rescued from a house that was on fire. Two kittens did not make it. The other three, still with their eyes closed, were saved. Mom came with ash still stuck under her nails when we received her.

We knew that as soon as these kittens were off their mom’s milk, they were going to require a lot of food to be kept fed and growing into healthy cats. The grant from the Petfinder Foundation allowed us to take this additional litter and mom into our care when they needed it most. The lady who rescued them was keeping them in her car.

We are so grateful to have assistance helping pets like this during the COVID-19 pandemic.
