Animal Rescue of the Rockies: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This is such a wonderful grant. We used the funding to support the adoption of 20 cats and five dogs. The funding covered the cost to spay or neuter, vaccinate, and microchip these pets prior to adoption. It allowed us to reduce the adoption cost on all the pets.

Five of the dogs and 10 of the cats were senior pets over 8 years of age. With the reduced adoption cost, these 15 pets got great homes quickly. Some had been waiting for their new home for four months. Ten of the cats had injuries such as enucleations or amputations. With their reduced adoption fees, these cats were all adopted within one month.

Aside from getting great homes faster, which is just fantastic, the grant helped free up foster homes so that we could help more pets. It also helped improve morale among our foster parents, who were understandably anxious for these pets to find forever homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Harvey is a sweet kitty who arrived as a 2-month-old stray and had had a severe eye infection that caused his eye to burst.

He was found wandering on a rural road. We assume he’d been abandoned.

We took him to a vet who performed an enucleation. Harvey immediately bounced back to health and was sweet and happy.

With special funding from the Petfinder Foundation Kia Pet Adoption Grant, we reduced Harvey’s adoption fee to $25 and he found his forever home within two weeks. Now he’s living the good life in a wonderful home where he is the center of attention.
