Grand County Pet Pals: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

With the grant award, we were able to purchase wall-mounted cat shelves, scratching posts, and stair steppers for the cat room at the animal shelter.

There are many benefits of cat scratching posts. They help to keep the cat's claws healthy by removing dead layers. They help cats stretch their whole body as well as their paws to keep their muscles in shape. They can provide a way for the cats to exercise and relieve stress.

Since we have multiple cats in the shelter, the scratching post will serve as a meeting point and a place for the cats to play and interact.

How many pets did this grant help?

140 cats

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Tang is at the animal shelter right now. He is a young, neutered male who came in as a stray, so we don’t know much about his history.

Tang can be a bit feisty, and the wall-mounted scratching posts and stair steppers give him a healthy outlet to get out his energy.

Tang is still waiting his forever home, but we know he will be adopted soon. The wall-mounted cat-enrichment items are really helping him release some of his extra energy.

You can meet Tang here.
