Animal Rescue of Tracy: Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The $250 was split into two separate amounts to provide one discounted-fee adoption of a special-needs dog and one free adoption of a 6-year-old Chihuahua who had been in rescue for more than a year and was adopted by a senior-citizen couple.

Mabel, a special-needs dog who was most likely born missing her back paws and who was very timid after being dumped along the side of the road in a basket with her two puppies, needed a very special family to provide for her needs. She found one as a result of our being able to discount her adoption fee using this grant.

Penny, who had been in rescue for more than a year, was able to stay with her foster parents, both in their seventies, as a result of Animal Rescue of Tracy covering Penny's entire adoption fee with this grant.

Mabel (first photo) was surrendered to the Manteca Shelter in a laundry basket with her two puppies in mid-April 2020. Mabel was frightened and it was apparent that she had been used for backyard breeding. For four months, Mabel was shown love and encouragement by her foster family, and she now receives even more love and encouragement from her new mom (second photo) and dad, who chose Mabel despite her physical and emotional challenges and traveled quite a distance to meet and adopt her.

Penny (third photo) was in foster care for more than a year until the right home was found for her — and it was right under her own nose. Penny was adopted by her foster parents, Dorothy (fourth photo) and Roger (fifth photo).

Although we had a number of applicants over the years, Penny is a bit of a diva, and the best fit for her just wasn’t found. But then something wonderful happened: Penny stepped into the role of emotional support animal (ESA) for Roger and it became clear she belonged with him.
