Sonoma County Animal Services: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The P.L.A.Y Chill Pads have been used with kittens, cats, and dogs who have come into our care at the shelter. They help us to provide a cozy, warm, and comforting space for animals who often arrive unsure and nervous of their surroundings. A comfy bed is often one of the first signs to an animal that they will be safe and cared for here.

Receiving the Chill Pads has helped us keep animals warm and cozy through this challenging fall season. Donations are down due to the pandemic and ensuring that we can maintain high levels of care for our animals has been so important. So far, all of the beds have been placed in circulation. We appreciate that they are easy to wash and can be used with multiple animals.

How many pets did this grant help?

40 so far!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Dhalia, the black kitty in the photos, is currently up for adoption. She came to us as a stray. She is a shy girl, but ever so sweet. While she does take time to warm up to you, once she does, she’s yours forever. She always lights up when she sees a familiar face and immediately seeks attention. She enjoys head rubs while she makes biscuits on her cozy P.L.A.Y Chill Pad. Meet Dahlia here.

Little balls of energy, orange kittens Trixie, Johnny, and Stevie had a blast playing and snuggling on their P.L.A.Y Chill Pads. They attended a local contactless Halloween event in our Mobile Adoption Center and a city police officer fell in love with Trixie. Johnny and Stevie were adopted at Western Farm Center, our local feed-store partner. We know they are making their families so happy!
