Wags and Whiskers Pet Rescue: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Grant funds were used to purchase supplies for foster homes. Due to the shelter-in-place order in our state, we have had an influx of foster homes become available.
We purchased crates, food, bowls, beds, toys, and potty pads for up to 40 new foster homes.

This grant made it possible for people with very little dog experience to foster and be fully prepared. Often people are deterred from fostering because they do not have the supplies and/or the financial means to care for a dog.

How many pets did this grant help?

50

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ricky is a 3-year-old pit bull mix who has been in our rescue for two years. He was only a year old when we got him and he was such an active dog that it turned almost everyone who met him away. No one wanted a dog who was going to bounce off the walls.

Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation grant, we were able to get Ricky a sturdy crate, Kong toys, interactive puzzle bowls, a sturdy leash, and a martingale collar and his foster family was able to attend some great training sessions to help with his energy redirection.

His foster family felt so supported and prepared that they decided to adopt Ricky themselves after they felt confident enough to handle his energy level and had all the proper supplies.
