Compassion Without Borders: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant allowed us to waive adoption fees for four animals to make them more attractive to potential adopters. Although there are many factors that determine whether an animal is adopted, a waived adoption fee can give a special dog that extra boost he or she needs to get adopted. This is especially helpful to the dogs we rescue at Compassion Without Borders, since many are behavior or medical cases rescued from [open-admission] shelters or traumatic situations.
As of the writing of this report, three of the four featured dogs have already been adopted! The three dogs adopted were Betty Boop, Roy, and Panchita; Regalito is still waiting for his forever home and is listed on Petfinder.

Betty Boop (first three photos) was adopted in September as a result of this grant.
When Betty Boop first arrived at our shelter, she was a shy, nervous, and unsure pup in need of some time to bloom. This is one of the reasons we chose her as a good fit for this grant.
Betty Boop embarked on a long journey of growth and transformation with her amazing foster family to bring her out of her shell!
According to her new mom, their bond is growing stronger every day. They’ve been having a blast on walks and beach adventures (fourth photo), and Betty Boop and her new fur buddy, Koa, have become fast friends. Below is an update we received from Betty Boop’s adoptive mom:
“Little by little, Betty Boop is warming up to me. We have been bonding over walks and to the beach. She gets along great with the other dog, Koa. We are still working on trust and hoping to start working with her on some training like recall and such. But I’m giving her some time to settle in.”
Betty Boop’s journey has come full circle, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone involved in her heartwarming transformation. You know what they say: “Good things come to those who wait.” Hope is always possible.
Thank you to the Petfinder Foundation and Kia for giving Betty Boop and dogs like her a Happy Tail!
