Saving Grace Rescue, Inc.: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Enrichment grant funds were used to purchase a Made4Pets multi-level cat tower and several cat hideaway cubes to help young kittens feel safe and nurtured.

We rescue special-needs felines, from blind kittens to kitties with a wobble or who are recovering from surgery. The comfy hideaway cubes help the kittens in our foster homes feel more secure. The “safe space/play space” cubes help cultivate confidence in our foster cats, which encourages them to connect with potential adopters.

The cat tower is ideal for our shelter; it has less of a chemical smell than carpet towers, which is better for blind kittens, who depend on scent extensively. It includes soft pads on each landing that can be removed and washed, so we can keep a clean, healthy shelter environment. With this large tower in our shelter, our rescues can explore their natural climbing, scratching, and playing instincts.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Our first group was a mother and newborns who had come from a hoarding environment and were very anxious.

The hideaway cubes and multi-level tree played a crucial role in helping us to gain their trust and provide them with a happy environment.

When potential adopters came to visit, the cats felt safe in their tree levels and on top of their cubes, allowing for interaction with adopters. They were quickly adopted after spay/neuter and are thriving!

The photos show the very relaxed kitties in their tree and on TOP of the hideaway cube. They used it for hiding until they became comfortable, then moved to lying on top once they were acclimated.
