We were able to get three senior dogs adopted by waiving the adoption fees for their new owners.

How many pets did this grant help?

Three senior dogs: Mailey, Roxy, and Iris

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Mailey (first and second photos) was from the City of Bakersfield Animal Shelter in Kern County, CA.

She is 10 years old and was adopted by a family with another old dog (11-year-old Sam) to keep him happy after his companion dog died. Mailey also lives with a 5-year-old “boss,” a.k.a. cat, Patrick, who is the alpha. The three animals get along.

Iris (third photo) is an 11-year-old shepherd who is not only old, she has had major surgeries to remove tumors. She is now adopted to a young man who works from home. They walk to the beach near their home at a slow pace each afternoon.

Roxy (fourth photo) is a 9-year-old pit/mastiff mix found wandering in the cold rain in Bakersfield in early December 2021. She was chipped and her owner was notified. Per her previous owner, Roxy had been missing for years. Unfortunately, the owner had moved to an apartment where Roxy could not go, so she was surrendered to the finder.
