Barks of Love: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Overall care for a senior dog in our rescue named Bandit.

Bandit has a chronic thyroid condition and is having allergy issues. This grant allowed us to pay for his medications and testing.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Bandit is 12 years old. He was pulled from the Orange County shelter last year and placed into foster care. We noticed shortly after pulling him that he was gaining weight. After a trip to the vet, senior blood panel and other testing, he was diagnosed with a thyroid condition. He has also developed environmental allergies. Although his medication isn’t expensive, because he’s a senior dog, Bandit has been in our care for about eight months and we don’t anticipate him being adopted in the near future, as he gets very little interest (we don’t understand it — he’s perfect!). This grant allows us to pay for his medication and testing without having to worry about the care of other dogs or longevity of being able to provide the appropriate medication for him.
