Cherished Tails Senior Sanctuary: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This funding from the Petfinder Foundation enabled us to provide the surgery for Darla to get her femoral head ostectomy (FHO) hip surgery done. Cherished Tails takes in many special-needs pets at risk of euthanasia due to medical conditions, and as a result, many require surgeries. The only way we can continue to help is with the financial assistance of donors and grants.
How many pets did this grant help?
One: It provided funding for this specific dog to get her surgery
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Darla came to us from Arizona Humane Society, where she was at risk of euthanasia due to a trauma that caused her femoral head (hip) bone to be completely shattered.
She needed a femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery done by a skilled surgeon because the femoral head was bone-on-bone and needed to be rebuilt. We were able to get her surgery done at VSCOT and, while healing was slow, she ultimately recovered well.
Darla is now able to walk and even run like a young dog should. She has a sweet, funny personality, and is very happy to be pain-free, which gave her a new lease on life.
After Darla spent so much time with her foster family, healing and getting stronger and healthier, they decided that they could not let her go, so they made her a forever member of their family! She is the light of her human foster brother’s life and his best buddy.
We are so grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for providing an Emergency Medical Grant to assist us in getting Darla her lifesaving surgery! And the most exciting part of Darla’s rescue journey is she is home for good! Happy life, sweet little lady!
