Rockstar Rescue: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant was applied for to acquire stairs to use in our play yard to help and assist dogs recovering from injuries -- dogs with broken, fractured, or even amputated limbs who need to regain strength and agility.

We intend this grant to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation for many dogs not yet in our care who may come our way going forward.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One dog in particular in need of stair-rehabilitation is Libby, a young male Jindo.

Libby just had a planned femoral head ostectomy surgery that, sadly, ended in amputation. He now needs to build strength and muscle in his remaining rear leg to help him move about effortlessly and without tiring too quickly.

Unfortunately, Libby is a skittish dog who is afraid of the stairs, so he hasn’t yet utilized them, but we are encouraging him with treats and hopefully he’ll trot up and down them soon!

You can meet Libby here.
