Smiling Dog Rescue: All-Star Dog Rescue Celebration Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant money given to Smiling Dog Rescue from the Petfinder Foundation was used for medical expenses of shelter dogs who would have otherwise been euthanized due to severe illness.

The grant monies provided by the Petfinder Foundation allowed Smiling Dog Rescue to save 18 severely ill dogs from shelters across the Southwest.

How many pets did this grant help?

We were able to help 18 precious souls!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Felix was a precious 5-month-old pup who was found as a stray and taken to [an open-admission] shelter in Southern California. The shelter manager contacted Smiling Dog Rescue in hopes that we would have the resources to perform an immediate eye removal due to trauma on this precious pup who was in horrible pain. Thankfully, because of the Petfinder Foundation grant monies, we were able to say YES! But as luck would have it, Felix came down with parvo the day we pulled him from the shelter and his surgery would have to wait while our veterinarians saved this pup’s life! Our incredible medical team pulled Felix through the parvo along with sensitive pain-management for his traumatic eye injury, and when he was well enough to have his surgery, he came through with flying colors! Felix was adopted by a loving family and has a little poodle brother 🙂

Thank you, Petfinder Foundation!
