How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We were able to reduce the adoption fee of five of the tortoises we had available for adoption. We started the program with seven available for adoption and currently only have two left under our care.

Speedy was the big male tortoise we had available for adoption. His adopter drove all the way from New Mexico to adopt him. It was her first time owning a sulcata tortoise and she was very excited to get him. She sent us photos of him in his new habitat (pictured).

We also had another person drive all the way from Oklahoma to adopt a big female tortoise we had available for adoption. It was an 18-hour drive each way and now the tortoise lives on a 20-acre property with all the grass she can eat. This adopter was also a first-time sulcata owner and had always wanted to have one to add to her small farm of goats, chicken, dogs, and other livestock.
