How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received a grant from Kong for enrichment. The Kong toys were distributed to our shelter dogs for additional enrichment while they spend time at the shelter waiting for their forever homes.

Pets who spent a long time at our shelter waiting for their forever homes were given Kong toys to help the time go by faster. For some dogs, we froze treats into the Kong toys to make the dogs more interested. We feel that the extra enrichment helped our long-time dogs get adopted.

Bam Bam was a long-time resident of HSCAZ who was returned twice for being destructive when left alone. We gave Bam Bam a Kong for his kennel, where he enjoyed hours of playing with it instead of thinking about how lonely he was and how much he wanted to get out of the shelter. Bam Bam was adopted recently and we sent his new owners home with two Kong toys. We’ve heard that he is doing great and, as long as he has his Kong when he is left alone, he is just fine!
