The Kia Pet Adoption Grant allowed Cabot Animal Support Services to reduce the adoption fees on 42 pets, resulting in quicker adoptions for some of our pets. Some of them were long-term residents, also!

Chewbacca was surrendered to our shelter after his owner became homeless. The owner was living in her car with four dogs when she reached out to our social worker on staff. We offered to assist her with a “helping hand” foster until she got back on her feet, but she ultimately decided that surrendering them was the best thing for her pets.

We expedited the owner-surrender process due to her situation and allowed her to bring her pets to the shelter quickly and with no additional fees. It was a heartbreaking scene. Many tears were shed.

Two of her dogs didn’t blink an eye at the shelter lifestyle, but Chewbacca was so scared. He lashed out at our staff and visitors who tried to handle him. The shelter was a traumatic place for him. He couldn’t absorb it all.

Then one day, a kind soul stopped by the shelter looking for a small lap dog of her very own. Miraculously, she was able to handle Chewbacca with no incident. She adopted him on the spot, and they have been inseparable ever since!

She was able to adopt him at a reduced rate fee thanks to the Kia Pet Adoption Grant and save some of her money to assist in purchasing supplies to get him comfortable in her home!
