Humane Society of the Ouachitas: A Shot at Life Vaccination Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Vaccinating all cats as they come into our shelter and foster network.

We have struggled with upper respiratory infection moving though our cat population in the past. With the donated vaccinations on hand we have been able to vaccinate every cat at the time of intake. Isolate to be sure no symptoms of illness present and then move into our adoption room. We have not had any URI outbreaks since adopting this schedule. What a huge help!

How many pets did this grant help?

to date, 25. We have 25 vaccinations remaining to be used.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Orchid is a beautiful Seal Point Siamese with blue eyes that came to the Humane Society of the Ouachitas shelter with her litter of 5 kittens. They had been found outside, fending for themselves. HSO staff was able to vaccinate them upon intake. They all stayed healthy and were altered and adopted in a very short time. They were able to go to their forever homes quickly because they were kept healthy and ready for adoption by the donation of these vaccinations.
