Have a Heart Pet Shelter: Capital Improvement Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

With this grant, we were able to purchase seven heavy-duty kennel doors and had additional powder coating applied to extend their life. Our old kennel doors were rusted, falling apart, and beyond repair. They were hard to disinfect properly and presented a hazard to the dogs. The new doors are very sturdy, easy to clean, and are expected to have a long life.

How many pets did this grant help?

Our shelter housed 500 dogs and puppies in 2021. We expect that number to be the same, if not higher, in 2022.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The picture we have provided shows golden retriever Goldie. She was turned in to a local vet for euthanasia because her owner could not care for her any longer.

The vet contacted our shelter with an appeal to take in this wonderful, healthy dog. We immediately brought her to the shelter and have placed her up for adoption.

We have had several inquiries, and Goldie is already on hold with an adoption application pending. She will be going to her new home next week.
