Weimaraner Rescue of the South: Shelter Challenge Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

To pay mounting vet bills as a result of the significant "special needs" rescues WRS has intaken in the last several months.

WRS has been able to provide additional care and take in dogs that we might have had to turn away if we hadn't won the grant.

How many pets did this grant help?

Specifically, two dogs, Jonah and Landon, that came to us in horrific, emaciated condition and have required extended time in boarding and additional veterinary care to get them healthy.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Jonah was picked up as a stray and never reclaimed from a Mississippi shelter in late June 2013. He was emaciated, heartworm positive, and had numerous infections. We were not sure if he was going to live or die. Four weeks later, while he has a long way to go in his recovery, WRS has stabilized his condition and he’s now starting to gain weight and get healthier.
