Humane Society of Elmore County: Purina and Amazon Treats for the Holidays Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Friskies Party Mix Cat Treats are being used in our shelter to enhance our cats' daily lives as we interact with them in our communal cat rooms as well as those incoming kitties still in quarantine in individual cages. Most respond quite well to the tossing of some treats across the floor for them to chase, bat at and then eat. We also sent some of these out with cat adopters so they can treat and entertain their new kitty when it gets home.

As with any shelter, not having to go out and purchase something like these treats helps us use our limited funds for veterinary bills, spay & neuter, vaccines and other medical charges so that we can save even more lives. Having yummy treats helps our staff, volunteers and potential adopters interact more with the cats so that their lives are enriched while we work to find them forever homes.

How many pets did this grant help?

The 30-40 adoptable cats in our adoption area.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Thomas is a 4-year-old, quite handsome big tom cat who came to us after his owner’s home burned. He was just a love, but had to spend a month on antibiotics for an odd illness the vet hardly ever sees. So Thomas needed lots of our loving and treats while he was recuperating so he wouldn’t get depressed, and the Friskies Party Mix treats fit the bill perfectly. Thomas recovered and was adopted to a perfect home for him where he is going to be spoiled and have no shortage of treats all to himself.
