The Humane Society of Southeast Texas

As Hurricane Ike hit Texas, the shelters were of no exception. The Humane Society of Southeast Texas was of no exception. Their area experienced flooding and destruction in ways they had never experienced before. With the extensive damage to property and home, hundreds of animals were left in desperate circumstances.

In a short span of time following the hurricane, nearly 400 animals were brought to the shelter for food, water, medical treatment and emergency care. It took a heroic effort with several volunteer teams to help provide these storm victims a safe haven. The Petfinder.com Foundation saw the efforts that the Humane Society of Southeast Texas was going to and reached out to help them. With the funds from the disaster grant they were able to accomplish more then they first thought possible. It is with great relief that the shelter was able to provide quality care to hundreds of dogs, cats, farrets, guinea pigs, horses, and parrots in desperate circumstances.
