Often times, in times of disaster, shelter will experience power loss causing great damage to the shelter and it’s animals. Humane Society of Missouri is one such shelter that often loses power when storms hit the Missouri area. Petfinder.com Foundation was able to help with the effort in supplying a grant to prepare for such disastrous situations. Through funds from Petfinder.com Foundation, the Humane Society of Missouri, was able to purchase not just one, but three much needed generators for their Ranch.
The generators are needed in the event that power is lost for any extended period of time. Since, on average, the Ranch cares for over 300 animals daily, the loss of power could potentially create a disaster in itself. The Ranch is located in a very rural area, with access limited to one, narrow gravel road.
While the Ranch has a well trained Disaster Response Team, it has been extremely busy during the spring and summer months rescuing animals from flooding in Missouri and other Midwest states. While the shelter was fortunate not to be flooded, they did often lose power and with the generators purchased from Petfinder.com Foundation grant funds the shelter was able to be ready for anything that might come.
Kathryn W. Warnick the president of the Humane Society of Missouri states that life saving work would not be possible without the generosity of friends like you [Petfinder.com Foundation]. You are truly helping to make a difference in the lives of these very deserving animals.
