The Petfinder.com Foundation supports all animals, rescue groups, and shelters in need during times of disaster. Recently, Petfinder.com Foundation awarded $40,000.00 to Habitat For Horses, Inc. to help rebuild the ranch after Hurricane Ike devastated their organization. They sustained heavy damage to their new ICU barn and nearly every one of their 60 + run-in roofs were damaged or destroyed. Fences were blown down, their feed room was damaged, their foaling shed had a damaged roof and the list of devastation goes on. Through the grant that they received from Petfinder.com Foundation, Habitat For Horses, were able to hire additional construction ranch staff to assist with cleaning up after the storm and rebuilding.
To date they are still in the process of their rebuilding, but are happy to report that they are nearing the end of construction. Habitat For Horses has repaired the barn and in celebration hosted a grand re-opening with a Bar-B-Q and all of the organization’s members. They celebrated on a beautiful sunny day with the horses in their new home-a barn that was a clean as a whistle. Then event was completed with the introduction of a Sir Charles Munchkin, a special needs horse, to the other Habitat horses. As well as the president and founder, Jerry XXX, making a speech and cutting a red ribbon to the newly restored barn that resulted in a round of applause from about 60 teary eyed members.
Vice President of Habitat For Horses, Rebecca Williams, says “Petfinder.com Foundation has been wonderfully supportive of the horses and to say thank you is a start but just doesn’t seem to be enough. We sincerely appreciate Petfinder.com Foundation and hope [they] understand the importance of what the grant has allowed us to do. We are now back in business, the business of saving horses. Thank you.”
