Bloomingdale Regional Animal Shelter Society
The Bloomingdale Regional Animal Shelter Society (BASS) is located in the flood plain of New Jersey. When the adjacent Pequannock River began to rapidly overflow they were forced to quickly evacuate their shelter. Due to their shelter space they were forced to remove all their dogs. To keep the cats safe, they transferred all healthy cats to the top tier of the cages and evacuated sick cats that needed daily care. Shelter workers were forced to travel back and forth to care for all the animals in need. During kitten season and the summer months, all cages are fully utilized making transporting difficult and the shelter extremely vulnerable. The shelter only has one road that quickly becomes flooded when weather is extreme.
The Petfinder.com Foundation quickly saw a need at this shelter and reached out to assist them with their goals of creating a new and updated sunroom where they can safely contain healthy cats high enough to be safe while allowing them to evacuate the dogs and sick cats. This sunroom not only provided a safe place for the healthy cats, but it allowed the shelter to more time to evacuate the other animals.
